Download E-Initiative
The full installation includes both the user interface and the underlying database.  The update
installation updates only the user interface.  Each of these files are time-stamped with
respect to the last date they were updated.  Because the update installation file is sometimes
updated more frequently than the full installation file, even first-time installers should check
the time stamps on the files.  If the update installation file was updated later than the full
installation file, a first-time installer should perform the full update and then the update
installation.

Full Installation Instructions

Click here to download a self-extracting, zip file, E-Initiative.exe (last updated 02/10/2000,
05:54 PM EST), which contains the full installation of E-Initiative version 3.5.  Once you have
that file on your system, I suggest you place it in its own directory before running it.

Right-click
here (and select "Save File As") to download a sample XML file.
Right-click
here (and select "Save File As") to download another sample XML file.

When you run the file, it will create four files: setup.exe, E-Initiative.CAB, E-Initiative.DEP,
and SETUP.LST.  Double-click on setup.exe to run the installation program and then follow
the on-screen instructions.

Update Installation Instructions

If you are reinstalling the full version of E-Initiative, you will erase your character data.  In
order to avoid a loss of data, you may instead download the new version of the file,
E-Initiative.exe, and replace your existing version of that file.  The patch will be contained in a
zip file, the link to which is below.  This procedure will always work unless the design of the
underlying database changes dramatically, which will be indicated here.

Registration
To register your copy, you must make a payment of $9.99 via first class mail address to
Robert E. Bodine, P. O. Box 1432, Ocean View, DE 19970.  After that, follow the instructions
for registration in the tutorial.  If you are installing a  free update, you will need to
re-register; however, the registration code will be the same one you were given when you
registered that version.  If you lost that code, simply request a new one.

Monster XML Files

I've started to create the XML files for each of the monsters in the SRD (or otherwise within
the public domain).  The links below will provide access to zip files containing those monsters.
There is a link for each letter of the alphabet.  Enjoy.

Note: The Monster Manual is, like all WotC sources, a tangled mess of errata.  In particular, it
is a rare occurrence indeed for the WotC personnel to assign the correct amount of skill
points.  For the Aboleth Mage, they've assigned an extra 74 skill points while simultaneously
giving the character too high a Bluff modifier and too low a  Diplomacy modifier.  I haven't
always corrected these things, instead using what the fine folks at
CMP chose to use when
creating the E-Tools characters.  Also, there are monsters with class levels in these zip files
that don't exist in the Monster Manual.  They're bonus XML files, but you'll have to accept my
choice of feats, skills, and equipment.

Also, E-Tools doesn't (effectively) support the creation of skeletons and other templates.  I'll
have to take care of those later.
